Why would anyone need house cleaning tips? Cleaning your house is just a matter of common sense right? You
just do it the way your mom did it or the way you've seen other people do it. What's so hard?
You'll be surprised how much time and effort you can save with just a few little tips and hints that will
show you short cuts and ways to get much better results with no extra effort.
For instance do you know that there are at least three ways to clean a stainless steel cooker hood that has
accumulated a bit of greasy grime?
You can tackle it with dishwashing detergent, hot water and scourers. Or you can use a kitchen cleaner. Or
you can use white spirit or mentholated spirits. The third one of these will do a much better job than either
of the other two.
There's also another, even better way that I just discovered and about which I have just published an
article on my blog.
Then, you can save yourself an amazing amount of time just by being well organized about the way you clean
your house. I have a number of routines. I change from time to time to create a bit of variety.
This is my 5-Day Cleaning Routine. Each day one room gets "the treatment." In other words I focus my full
attention on that one room and give it a really thorough going over from top to bottom. The rest of the rooms
just get a quick dust and vacuum.
Of course there are every day jobs like dishwashing, bed making and laundry. I fit those into odd moments
during the day. Although I do try to get the beds made early just to make the house look tidier.
Also, of course, it helps to get the laundry started early so that you can hang it out to dry while the sun
is shining.
I never let grease accumulate on the cooker hob. Once it stays there for any length of time it tends to
somehow sink in and become really difficult to shift. So after every meal I give it a good wipe over with
kitchen cleaner and warm water.
Once a week I soak the kitchen sink and washing up bowl in bleach to get rid of any surplus grease and
stains that have built up. This ensures that the surfaces in which we wash our eating and cooking utensils are
always in a hygienic state.
Every day I clean the toilet bowls and spray them with a good quality toilet cleaner.
By the way, never leave toothbrushes near the toilet. I read an article recently that said that toilet germs
float about in the atmosphere around the toilet and you wouldn't want any of them infesting your
toothbrush.
It made a lot of difference to the amount of time it takes me to clean my house when I finally persuaded my
family that we didn't need to have multiple photographs and ornaments on every flat surface.
It saves hours of time when you don't have to keep lifting objects one by one in order to be able to dust
underneath. Add to that the amount of time it takes to dust each object and you can see how the minutes add up
into dusting hours.
